Effective date: August 12, 2026
Towel Drop is a puzzle game. In plain words: it does not ask who you are. There is no account, no sign-up, and no advertising identifier. Your progress lives on your own device. The only thing that ever leaves it is a score you deliberately choose to submit to the leaderboard, and even then you decide the name attached to it.
All of this is kept in your browser's local storage, or in the app's own storage area on your phone. It never leaves the device by itself. Clearing your browser data, or uninstalling the app, deletes it permanently. We hold no copy and cannot restore it.
The share button hands a short piece of text and a link to your device's own share sheet or clipboard. You then choose whether to send it and to whom. The link contains the number that seeds the game's random towels, your score, and the level you reached. Nothing about you. We never see it.
The pause and end-of-run screens show a single card for another Hearth Software app. The list
behind those cards ships inside the game, so it works offline and on your very first run. So that
it does not go stale, the game refreshes that list from
hearth-software.com/apps.json, at most once a day, and only when you open a
screen that shows a card. A player who never opens those screens never makes the request
at all.
The request sends nothing: no identifier, no score, no progress, no settings. It is a plain download of a public file. Like any request to any website, our host briefly logs the IP address and browser that asked, which is what a web server does to answer at all; those logs are not linked to anything in the game and are not used to profile anyone. The card is a link to our own app pages. There is no ad network involved, and no third party is contacted.
Submitting a score is optional and always an explicit action. If you submit one, the following is sent to our server:
We do not receive your email address, phone number, contacts, location, or advertising ID. Our server records the IP address of the request in its ordinary security logs, as any web server does; those logs are used only to prevent abuse and are not linked to your entries.
Adding a friend works by exchanging the random codes described above, the ones you and they chose to create. We never read your contacts or address book, and the game does not ask for permission to.
Your friends list is kept on your device and is never uploaded. We hold no record of who follows whom. When you open the friends screen, the game asks our server for the best scores belonging to the codes on your list, and the server answers without writing anything down. Removing a friend deletes the code from your device, and there is nothing on our side to delete because there was never anything there.
The trade-off is worth stating plainly: because that list lives only on your device, it is lost if you uninstall the game or clear its data, in the same way your saved runs are. There is no account to restore it from, and creating one would mean holding exactly the information this avoids holding.
Towel Drop is suitable for all ages and collects nothing that identifies a person. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a display name submitted to the leaderboard identifies a child, write to us and we will remove it.
The game itself contains no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs. The cards for our other apps are served by us and link to us; no ad network is involved. The leaderboard runs on infrastructure operated by our hosting provider, which processes the request on our behalf and does not use the data for its own purposes. If the game is distributed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, those stores collect their own download and crash statistics under their own policies, which we do not control.
If this policy changes in a way that affects what leaves your device, we will update the effective date above and describe the change on this page.
